Many monks exit universities as laymen, this is a problem - President

COLOMBO (News 1st)  -  Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe told parliament on Tuesday (29) that a large number of people enter universities as monks, end up as laymen, and steps need to be taken to prevent this situation.

The President made these comments during the budget debate in parliament today (29)

President Wickremesinghe pointed out that many problems arise when the Sangha does not act according to the Dhamma, and it has been happening since the time of the Buddha.

The President also said that for the first time, he gave approval to a bill to register a discourse that empowers the Maha Sangha to protect Sangha discipline.
