COLOMBO (News 1st) – Sri Lanka's Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said that electricity tariffs will be increased, again.

"No matter who becomes, President, Finance Minister, or Government we cannot avoid another hike in tariffs.," he told Parliament on Friday (25) adding that Sri Lanka will not receive rainfall in 2023 as it did in 2022.

Therefore, according to the Minister it costs Rs. 56.90 to generate a unit for the CEB to deliver around clock electricity.

"We charge Rs. 29/- per unit, which is a loss. We need fuel, coal, and furnace oil and no one offers it for free. We are losing because there is no decision on the fuel prices," added the Minister.
