Minister assures best organic fertilizer for farmers within this season

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera assures that steps will be taken to provide the best organic fertilizer to farmers.

The Minister emphasized that there will be no room for anyone to supply silt and soil from lakes and riverbeds as organic fertilizer to farmers within this season.

The Department of Agriculture has recommended to use 70% chemical fertilizer and 30% organic fertilizer for paddy cultivation this season.

Accordingly, the Minister emphasized that the best organic fertilizer will be provided for famers under this move.

The minister also stated that it has been planned to grant a subsidy of Rs. 20,000 to farmers who apply organic fertilizers to paddy cultivation in the upcoming season.

Minister Amaraweera added that no separate subsidy will be given to farmers who use urea fertilizer.
