Special teams to crackdown on crime in the south

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Police said it is taking the necessary measures to crackdown on criminal activity that is taking place in the southern part of Sri Lanka. 

Attorney Ajith Rohana, the Senior DIG in charge of the Southern Province said that since 1st June 2022 around 15 firearm-related crimes were reported in the southern province and police arrested 20 people. 

"We will not allow these criminals to use firearms once again. We will be setting up two Special Crimes Prevention Divisions in the Southern Province soon," he said.

The Senior DIG said that the Special Police Teams will be given training to crack down on drug trafficking, firearm trafficking, as well as organized criminal activity, and these teams will be deployed with the assistance of the Police Special Task Force.
