COLOMBO (News 1st) - The General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Sagara Kariyawasam said that the SLPP will not support the proposed 22nd constitutional amendment if it is the 19th amendment being restored for the needs of a single person.

If the 19th amendment is being reinstated for the needs of a single person, it creates a questionable situation, Kariyawasam said, adding that there is suspicion whether some parties aim to lead the country to an anarchic situation by bringing forward the relevant amendment.

He further alleged that bringing the 19th amendment would only give rise to separatism within the nation.

"At this time, people are not asking for a constitutional amendment, so if they are bringing this forward to satisfy the needs of someone else, I think there will be a big public uprising against this move," he added.
