COLOMBO (News 1st); A special gazette notice has been issued imposing a maximum retail price for eggs, by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
Accordingly, effective from yesterday (19) midnight, the maximum retail price of a white egg is Rs. 43/-.
The gazette notice states that the maximum retail price of a brown or a red chicken egg is Rs. 45/-.
It also mentions that no manufacturer, supplier, distributor or trader shall trade, supply, offer for trade or display for trade more than the specified maximum retail price.
Recently, the price of an egg hikes to Rs. 60/- and the price of a kilogram of chicken was Rs. 1300/-.
The Chairman of All Ceylon Poultry Businessmen's Association, Ajith Gunasekara said that if the Government takes steps to provide the necessary facilities, the price of chicken will be reduced in the future.
