COLOMBO (News 1st); A rural village in Sellakatharagam was plagued with Chronic Kidney Disease as test had proven that the saline ground water was not suitable for consumption.

Today, Gammadda was able to launch a clean drinking water project for the village, that will quench the thirst of almost 700 families.

The ground water located in the 20 Acre Grama Niladhari Division in Sellakatharagama is unsuitable for human consumption due to high saline levels.

As the issue of lack of access to clean drinking water went unsolved, many people from the village fell victim to the Chronic Kidney Disease.

Today (19), Gammadda laid the foundation at the Sellakatharagama Mahasen Raja Maha Viharaya for a drinking water project, that will solve this perennial issue.

What is most significant is that the Clean Drinking Water Project will also beneft the local and international tourists that visit the Sellakatharagama Sacred Grounds.

This water purification plant will benefit both the villagers and devotees.

"Gammadda is the people. There's no Gammadda without the people. And we are proud to launch another program under the Gammadda Accelerated Rural Development Initiative, for the people and by the people... ", noted Chevaan Daniel, the Head of the Gammadda Movement.

The project is financially supported by Pradeepa Thilakaratne Jayasekera, and Gerty Thilakaratne in memory of Edwin Thilakaratne, and by Vineetha Jayasinghe from Nugegoda in memory of her parents and brother.
