COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Railways says that 20 locomotives have been taken out of service due to the shortages of engine oil and spare parts.

Deputy General Manager of Railways Gamini Seneviratne says the Railways Department is facing severe difficulties in operating trains according to the usual schedule amidst the unavailability of these locomotives.

Although the locomotive fleet of Sri Lanka Railways consists of 74 engines, it has now been reduced to 54 given the shortage of engine oil and spare parts.

Gamini Seneviratne said the Ministry of Transport is exploring the possibility of importing Engine Oil as soon as possible.
