Ratta, Stalin bailed in unlawful assembly case

COLOMBO (News 1st); Eight people who were charged with being members of an unlawful assembly at the road leading to the Fort Magistrate's Court in Colombo on the 25th of May, and for obstructing the duties of Police Officers were released on personal bail by Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.

The eight individuals include Damitha Abeyratne, Rev. Sathyawel, Rathindu Senaratne (Ratta), Jagath Manuwarna, and Joseph Stalin.

They appeared in court on Tuesday (9) after they were noticed to do so.

The Slave Island Police making submissions in court said that the group of eight were among those who unlawful assembled at the road leading to the Fort Magistrate's Court in Colombo on the 25th of May, and obstructed the duties of Police Officers by attacking a Prisons Department Bus.

Counsel for the accused Upul Jayasuriya said that the Police had fabricated these charges.

However, the Fort Magistrate ordered to grant personal bail for the suspects and decided to call for the case again on the 29th of November.

The accused were also ordered to visit the Slave Island Police and provide statements.
