No construction in Sinharaja: Govt Dept tells Court.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Forest Conservation assured the Court of Appeal on Monday (8) that no construction of reservoirs or roads will take place by clearing the Sinharaja Rain Forest.

The petition filed seeking an order to suspend any intended construction of reservoirs and roads and clearing of the state forest lands in the Sinharaja Forest Reserve was taken up at the Court of Appeal.

The petition was filed by the Center for Environmental Justice (CEJ), and it was taken up in the presence of Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna, and Dhammika Ganepola.

The Senior State Counsel appearing for the Department of Forest Conservation assured the court that the Sinharaja Rain Forest will remain untouched for any proposed construction of roads and reservoirs.

The application will be called up again for consideration on the 8th of September.
