This is the last chance to recover Sri Lanka out of is downfall: President

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Ranil Wickramasinghe says that this is the last chance to recover the country's economy out of its downfall, and emphasizes that everyone should work together for the same.

He made these remarks during a visit to the Dharma Vijayaloka Temple, Rukmale, Kottawa on Saturday (06).

The President, who engaged in religious ceremonies, then visited the Chief of Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha, Ven. Itthepane Dhammalankara Nahimi and received his blessings.

The President, speaking to the Thero, said that he was able to become the President due to the advice given by Ven. Dhammalankara Thero, to keep his country in mind and to take up the position of the Prime Minister previously.

He said that he is attempting to establish an all-party Governance system, as he believes that through such a method it will be possible to rebuild the country's economy.

"If we divide ourselves, neither the Government nor the Opposition will lose, but the constitution and democracy will," the President said, emphasizing that this is the last chance to rebuild the economy, he said.

The President also mentioned that firstly, it is important to lift the people of the country out of their current state, and to create a better society overall.

President Wickremesinghe reiterated that he has fulfilled all of his duties to unite the country, and expressed sympathy at "some of those who have gone down on the wrong path" adding that he hopes to continue his journey along with them as well. 

"My belief is that if we continue on this path, we can create a better and stronger Sri Lanka in one and a half decades," the President said.

Mahanayake of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, Ven. Iththapane Dhammalankara Thero and Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha Anunayake Ven. Prof. Kotapitiya Rahula Thero both expressed thieir pleasure with regard to the future policies of President Wickremesinghe, and to make way for a Sri Lanka where citizens are able to live in peace and without fear.
