Sharp rise in Child Hospitalizations

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health stated that a rapid increase has been noted in the rate of children being admitted to hospitals with Dengue, COVID-19 and viral fever. 

The Deputy Director of Health Services and Director of the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children, Dr. G. Wijesuriya stated that a majority of children have been hospitalised due to Dengue Fever. 

He emphasized that the Dengue cases detected in Colombo, Kalutara, Gampaha and Galle Districts has also risen sharply.

According to Dr. Wijesuriya, 12 children are receiving treatment at Lady Ridgeway Hospital after contracting COVID-19.

While urging parents to remain cautious regarding the viral fever that is spreading in the country, Dr. Wijesuriya pointed out that the common symptoms of the fever are fever, cough, cold and throat infections.
