Leopard on prowl for dog, falls through roof

COLOMBO (News 1st); A leopard which was on the prowl to hunt a dog had fallen through the roof of a house in Hatton.

The leopard, which had jumped from roof to roof on Hatton Lindula estate houses to hunt a dog, broke through the roof and fell into the house, the residents of the house said.

Residents of the house also said that they closed the doors and ran out of the house when the incident happened, and then realized that the animal which fell through the roof was a leopard.

Veterinarian Akalank Pinedeniya later anesthetized the leopard which was trapped in the house for around 16 hours.

Nuwara Eliya's Wildlife officials said that arrangements were made to release the anesthetized and captured leopard into a suitable environment.

The plantation workers said that mountain leopards are a common sight in the area.
