COLOMBO (News 1st); The Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate says that it is 'horrified' by Sri Lankan security forces' violent crackdown on protesters.

In a tweet, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez encouraged President Ranil Wickremesinghe to engage with the Sri Lankan people's democratic aspirations, work toward economic stability and to address widespread need.

Human rights must be protected above all, he emphasized.
