Acting President suggests urgent relief program for essentials

COLOMBO (News 1st); Acting President Ranil Wickramasinghe has decided to initiate an urgent relief program to provide fuel, gas and essential food items to reduce the burden on the public who are under tremendous economic pressure.

He has taken this decision during a discussion held with Ministers and Members of Parliament today morning (16).

In addition, it has been decided to allocate additional funds for this program from the relief budget which is due to be presented next August.

During the discussion, the Acting President has advised to expedite the actions of the food security program and to strengthen the process.

Special attention was also paid to the provision of fuel and fertilizers regularly and promptly.

Moreover, plans were drawn to prepare the necessary environment for businessmen to run their business without any hindrance.

Meanwhile, Acting President Ranil Wickramasinghe said during the discussion that the People's Council, highlighted in the plan handed over by the leaders of the peaceful protest, can be accepted as a good initiative.

The Acting President further instructed to inform the relevant activists about the measures taken to fight corruption.
