COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Army personnel stationed at the Department of Immigration and Emigration noticed a woman in labor at the premises this morning and took immediate measures to admit her to the hospital.
A spokesperson for the Castle Street Hospital for Women said the woman delivered a baby girl, and both mother and child are in good health.
"I came from Ambalangoda and joined the queue at 6 PM. A pregnant woman was next to me. Then she went into labour. There was no ambulance positioned here even for an emergency," said a witness to the incident.
The 26-year-old woman who went into labor this morning, had been in the queue to obtain a passports for the past two days.
A large number of people were seen waiting in line at the Department of Immigration and Emigration today as well, hoping to obtain a passport.
