Distribution of fuel to filling stations suspended

COLOMBO (News 1st); The delivery of fuel to filling stations has been suspended, announced Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) on Tuesday (28).

It added that fuel will ONLY be issued for essential services from Tuesday (28).

The Sri Lankan Government decided to issue fuel only for essential services from until July 10th, said Minister (Dr) Bandula Gunawardena on Monday (27).

Accordingly, fuel will be released only for public transport, Airports, Ports, health, defense, power, export industries and other essential services including agriculture and food delivery from Tuesday (28) until the 10th of July.

He added that the fuel for essential services will be delivered by SLTB Depots and the filling stations manned by the three Armed Forces.

However, Media Institutions that provide information to the general public 24/7 have not been included in the essential services criteria.

News 1st contacted Anusha Palpita, the Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and he said Diesel required for the functioning of media institutions will be provided following a discussion with the CPC, however, Petrol will not be delivered.
