Fuel Token System from Monday (27)

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka has decided to implement a token system dedicated to filling stations to supply fuel for motorists waiting in line to obtain Petrol & Diesel.

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera said the program will come into effect from Monday (27) and the assistance of the Sri Lanka Police and Sri Lanka Army, Navy, and Air Force will be obtained to ensure the process is carried out smoothly.

The Minister said the token will be awarded dedicated to filling stations, and it cannot be tampered with.

The Minister said urged the general public to refrain from lining up at filling stations, as distribution will be on priority basis.

He said 10,000 MT of Diesel will be purchased from the Lanka IOC reserves.

According to Minister Wijesekara, Lanka IOC has requested allocation of more filling stations in the country.

The Minister also noted that fuel will be supplied for Public Transportation Services including private buses, Essential Services such as Ports and Aviation, and selected industries.
