COLOMBO (News 1st); The Minister of Justice, Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, PC states that a proposal will be submitted to Parliament to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee to draft a new constitution.

The Minister said that the views and proposals of the Ministerial Sub-Committee and the Expert Committee appointed by the relevant Parliamentary Select Committee to draft a new constitution will be further studied.

The Minister said that the relevant Parliamentary Select Committee is expected to seek public views on the drafting of a new constitution.

Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said that the report of the expert committee appointed to draft a new constitution will be handed over to him tomorrow by its Chairman, President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva.

The committee has already handed over the relevant report to the President.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice mentioned that a new anti-corruption bill has been submitted to the Cabinet.

The Minister said that the relevant new bill is expected to update the Bribery or Corruption Commission Act and the Assets and Liabilities Declaration Act, as the bill contains proposals to regulate the declaration of assets and liabilities.
