COLOMBO (News 1st); The Police have instructed all police officers NOT to interfere in the opening of fuel storage tanks at filling stations upon request by the public.
As a result, the Police Media Division has issued a warning to the public NOT to request police officers or other police personnel on duty at petrol stations to open storage tanks.
A statement issued by the Police Media Unit stated that there have been instances of people queuing up to request the police to open the tanks where fuel has been stored.
The Police Headquarters pointed out that if anyone commits an act of sabotage in the process of opening storage tanks, police officers will have to take responsibility for such incidents.
The statement further emphasized that it was NOT the duty of the Police to open the fuel storage tanks, adding that the opening of storage tanks should be done safely ONLY by those who are permitted to do so.
