COLOMBO (News 1st); The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption has arrested a woman at the Avissawella Police Station during attempt to pay a bribe of Rs. 150,000.

According to the Police, the suspect had tried to hand over the bribe to the Police while seeking bail for a smuggler who was arrested in the Avissawella area with more than 3 kilograms of cannabis.

The 35 year old suspect was identified as a resident of Avissawella and was being questioned on a three day detention order, Police stated.

The suspect’s wife had called the Police and had requested the Police grant bail for the suspect, promising a sum of Rs. 250,000 in return.

Accordingly, the Police stated that she was arrested at the Avissawella Police Station today while paying a sum of Rs. 150,000.
