COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has questioned the Health Minister's statement regarding adequate amount of essential medicines being imported to the country.

Pointing out that the Minister of Health has said that there is an adequate amount of medicines in the country, the GMOA questioned whether the received medicines are being properly distributed to hospitals.

GMOA members stated that if medicines are being properly received by the Ministry of Health, there is an issue with regard to the proper distribution of the said medicines.

The GMOA points out that at the National Eye Hospital, as of present, there is only a single kind of antibiotics available.

Therefore, the GMOA said lists have been compiled with regard to medicine stocks that are already over, in addition to medicines at hospitals which are at the risk of being finished.

If the Health Ministry is correct in its claim that essential medicines have been received, then there is a delay in the distribution of them, the GMOA mentioned.
