COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Immigration and Emigration said that the number of passports issued per day has increased by threefold.

A senior official at the Department of Immigration and Emigration said that about 800 passports were previously issued from the one-day service on an average day.

However, under the one-day service, the number of passports issued has risen from 3,000 to 3,500 currently, he said.

A senior spokesman for the Department of Immigration and Emigration said that under the normal system, the number of passports issued was around 600 per day previously, and that number has now risen to about 1,200.
