Overall inflation rises to 45%

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Census and Statistics states that the overall rate of inflation as measured by the National Consumer Price Index on Year-on-Year basis in May rose to 45.3% from from 33.8 percent recorded in April 2022 on a year-on-year basis, which is the highest recorded this year.

Meanwhile, food prices have increased to 58% from an year earlier from 45.1% in April, and the Year-on-Year inflation of the non-food group increased to 34.2% in May 2022 from 23.9% in April 2022.
