COLOMBO (News 1st); All Government and Government approved private schools in Colombo and other cities will be closed from Monday (20).

Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha said that steps have been taken to continue academic activities at rural schools that are NOT affected by transportation difficulties and to enable online education in other schools in Colombo and other major cities by granting them a holiday this week.

The Minister also said that it is NOT mandatory for teachers to report to work as schools will NOT be open.

The Minister further said that a program to provide proper education to Advance Level students will be launched from the beginning of July.

Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nihal Ranasinghe said that education activities in universities can be conducted online in the next two weeks.
