HL: Vice Chancellors to decide on University operations

COLOMBO (News 1st); The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted the Vice Chancellors the power to take a decision regarding the normal functioning of Universities, considering the current situation in the country.

Its Vice President Prof. Chandana Udawatte said that the fuel shortage has hampered the activities of Universities, and even the supply of food and beverages to university students is severely affected due to the shortage of gas.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) stated that it has instructed that examinations, which are currently underway, be held without a delay.

However, steps have been taken to ensure that the education of university students is carried out online without any hindrance, the UGC Vice President mentioned.

In the meantime, the Vice Chancellor of the Peradeniya University took steps to restrict the academic activities of the University of Peradeniya. Accordingly, students have been informed to vacate the hostels accordingly.

However, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya stated that the university will not be closed down, and essential activities will be carried out as usual.
