CBSL receives over 50,000 USD to import essentials

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) says that it has received north of 50,000 US dollars from well-wishers to import essentials.

According to the latest figures published, the CBSL has received 51,988 US dollars, 14,508 Sterling Pounds, 4253 Euros and 11,646 Australian dollars from well wishers.

CBSL recently set up several accounts to receive foreign exchange from well wishers abroad for the importation of essentials, including fuel, food and essential medication.

The Central Bank assures that all foreign currency donations under this pledge will be utilized only for the purpose of importation of much-needed essential items such as medicine, fuel, and food, and a committee has been appointed by the CBSL Governor for ensure the transparency of the receipts and utilization of donations.
