COLOMBO (News 1st); It was revealed at the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) yesterday (10) that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) had imported 50 substandard generators by incurring a cost of Rs. 3,100 million.

COPE Chairman Prof. Charitha Herath raised questions on the importation of 50 substandard generators during the session held yesterday.

Whilst pointing out that there are issues in the procurement process pertaining to the importation of the said generators, Prof. Charitha Herath also questioned the current status of the report requested in this regard.

In response, the Additional General Manager of the CEB, Andrew Nawamani said that appointments have been made to hold further discussions on the matter, whilst a letter has been directed to the relevant company in question, and the CEB is awaiting reply.
