Indian fertilizer to arrive next month, distribution within days

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister Mahinda Amaraweera states that 65,000 metric tons of urea fertilizer provided by the Government of India is due to arrive in Sri Lanka within the first two weeks of next month.

The Indian government has imported the fertilizer from Oman for their needs, and the above amount will be provided to Sri Lanka to fulfill fertilizer needs of the current Yala season.

The Ministry of Agriculture stated that the distribution of the stock of fertilizers will be done within two to three days as soon as they are received.

Accordingly, arrangements have been made to provide a bundle of urea fertilizer at a cost of Rs. 10,000 to farmers cultivating paddy during the Yala season.
