WEATHER: Wind speeds up to 50 kmph / 100 mm rainfall expected

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology says that Due to active south-west monsoon conditions, strong gusty winds (40-50) kmph with heavy showers above 100 mm will occur at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces and in Galle, Matara and Puttalam districts.

Further, the Met Dept. said to the people living in hilly areas (particularly landslide-prone areas) and low-lying areas in river basins are requested to be vigilant and drivers and people using roads in the hilly areas are requested to be vigilant.

Also, take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity and beware of fallen trees and power lines.

Furthermore, the Met Dept said to be alert to the advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology and for emergency assistance contact the local disaster management authorities.
