1.2Mn in construction industry face unemployment within a month

COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Construction Association of Sri Lanka says that in the face of the present crisis in the country, about 75% of the workers engaged in the construction sector are at risk of losing their jobs.

Close to 300,000 workers contribute indirectly to the construction work force, however the Chairman of the National Construction Association, M.D. Paul mentioned that close to 1.2 million people who are engaged in the construction industry face unemployment by next month.

The Chairman of the National Construction Association also mentioned that, at present close to 90% of construction work have been halted completely.

Whilst pointing out that a massive 800,000 to 900,000 work force contributes directly for the country through the construction industry, he noted that many construction workers as well as engineers and labourers have lost their jobs.
