Sri Lanka Railways to boost services

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Railways said that steps will be taken to increase the number of trains in operation, as well as the number of compartments attached to trains.

The General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara stated that these measures will be taken because of the rapid increase in passengers traveling by trains, following the increase in bus fares.

He further stated that the approval of the Public Service Commission has been obtained to recruit the essential staff on a contract basis.

The General Manager also stated that the Railway Department loses around Rs.15 Million daily due to the increase in fuel prices.
