COLOMBO (News 1st); The Committee on Public Accounts directed the Excise Department to specify standards for liquor as soon as possible and take steps to prevent the liquor manufacturing companies from establishing a market monopoly in selling liquor by including various conditions.
The Excise Department had stated that standards for locally manufactured liquor are being developed by the Excise Department, Government Analyst Department and the Sri Lanka Standard Institute together and arrangements would be made to gazette those standards through an Excise notification.
These matters were contained in the first report of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the COPA, which was tabled in Parliament recently (20) by the COPA Chairman (Prof.) Tissa Vitharana.
This report contains information on the investigations of 7 Government Institutions summoned by the Committee on Public Accounts during the period from 04.08.2021 to 19.11.2021. and one Special Audit Report.
