CBSL agreed to release USD for essential imports

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has agreed to issue dollars through commercial banks for the importation of essential commodities.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between the Essential Food Commodities Importers & Traders Association and the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The Governor of the CBSL has also instructed the importers to stop using the "supplier credit facility" which was used by importers of essential commodities for their imports.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka has stated that dollars will be issued through commercial banks as an alternative.

Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Nalin Fernando said that a report will be submitted to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on the number of containers that are held at the Colombo Port.
