Yala Season delayed, Food Crisis on the horizon

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Irrigation Department stated that sowing and land preparation activities have been delayed in several districts ahead of the Yala harvesting season.

The Director of the Water Management Unit of the Irrigation Department D. Abeysiriwardena said that if the Yala season is NOT completed within the next two weeks, there will be a severe food crisis in the country.

D. Abeysiriwardena also advised farmers to resort to alternative crops if they are unable to cultivate paddy at this time.
