Journalist Dharshana Handungoda summoned to CID, Lawyers question why no official communication was made

COLOMBO (News 1st); Journalist Dharshana Handungoda was summoned to the Criminal Investigations Department on Wednesday (25) morning, over certain revelations he made on social media.

"The summoning of journalists and activist sets a very bad example, given the current situation," he told reporters outside the CID premises.

Handungoda said that he had not received any official document claiming that he had been summoned to the CID, and that he only received a message over the phone requesting for his presence.

He said his counsel would raise their concerns on the matter, adding that the existing system and the police have been politicized.

While Journalist Dharshana Handungoda resfused to enter the CID premises until his concerns are answered, his counsel entered the premises to ascertain the cause for his presence.

Counsel said the police officer had noted that they would make an official communication to Journalist Dharshana Handungoda.
