1,800+ arrested for May 9th violence – Police

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police said that 1,808 suspects have been arrested so far with regard to the violence that broke out on the 9th of May 2022, following attacks by pro-government supporters on two peaceful protest sites in Colombo.

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that further investigations are being conducted on the attacks on the GotaGoGama and MynaGoGama peaceful protest sites and the violence that broke out across the country, thereafter.

He said 853 complaints were received on Tuesday (24) and over 100 suspects were arrested, and 82 of them were released on bail while another 33 suspects have been jailed after they were produced to the country.

In total 1,808 suspects have been arrested so far and 784 have been remanded.
