Railway TUs concerned over unused coaches

COLOMBO (News 1st); Indika Dodangoda, Secretary of the Locomotive Operating Engineers’ Union (LEOU) and Convenor of the Union Federation to uplift Sri Lanka Railways, warned that railways compartments imported from India and China are not be utilized in a proper manner.

He pointed out that 160 compartments imported from India and 100 compartments imported from China have not been deployed for operations, and are simply stationary on the tracks.

At the same time, an Indian team is in Sri Lanka to rectify the issues that were discovered by the Indian-made train coaches, and the team was sent to the country by the manufacturer.

The General Manager of Railways Dhammika Jayasundara told News 1st that following the repairs, these coaches will be added to service.
