COLOMBO (News 1st); The Essential Goods Supply Committee states that the consignment of essential goods from Tamil Nadu are due to be delivered to the Port of Colombo today (22).
Accordingly, plans are also underway to distribute the aid worth Rs. 2 billion, among 4 million families island wide.
Vajira Abeywardena, the Chairman of the Committee on the Supply of Essential Goods, said that these distribution programs have been prepared by Grama Niladharis island wide under the supervision of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and under the supervision of the Prime Minister's Office.
Under the first phase, plans have been drawn up to distribute the aid in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Badulla Districts.
Thereafter, it has been planned to be distribute the aid in the North and East as well as in Kalutara, Galle and Matara areas, Abeywardena added.
The aid consignment includes 9,000 metric tons of rice, 50 metric tons of milk powder and 25 tons of medicines and medical equipment.
The Indian High Commission stated that the ship left Tamil Nadu for Sri Lanka last Wednesday (18).
