COLOMBO (News 1st); MP Udaya Gammanpila alleges that Government had the ability to prevent the attack on the Galle Face on 9th May.

Speaking at the Parliament today (17), the Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya stated that those who went to Galle Face to attack the protestors were provoked by Government party MPs, and the very same MPs led them to Galle Face after gathering the attackers at Temple Trees.

Further alleging that the blockade set up by the security forces did not function properly, the MP questioned as to whether the Government is unable to understand whether a conflict would not arise when pro and anti-Government forces collide.

MP Gammanpila also pointed out that as Temple Trees lies only 1 km away from Galle Face Green, that there was ample opportunity and time to stop the attackers from going to the Galle Face, but the Police did not act in a timely manner.

"Who rendered the Police inactive? We have to demand whether the inaction of the Police and the Army is part of state terrorism," he added.
