STF arrests man for illegally converting Euros

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested one person in Boralesgamuwa, who attempted to convert 50,000 Euros through the ‘Undiyal’ method, which is illegal and is worth around Rs. 20 Million.

The suspect has been handed over to the Financial & Commercial Crimes Investigation Division.

The STF on Saturday (14), arrested two other people in the Boralesgamuwa and Pillawa areas who also attempted to convert foreign currency through the ‘Undiyal’ method.

According to the STF, a sum of $47,000 was seized from the suspects’ possession; the foreign currency is worth around Rs. 17.1 Million.

The STF further said the investigations of the exchange of foreign currency, through illegal methods such as ‘Undiyal’ will be further expanded based on information collected from various parts of the country.
