COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology has issued an amber alert for strong winds and rough seas for deep and shallow seas around the island.

Accordingly, wind speed will be (30-40) kmph sea areas around the island. Wind speed can be increased up to (60-70) kmph in the sea area extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanturai and Mannar and in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota.

Moreover, the sea area extending from Trincomalee to Puttalam via Kankasanturai and Mannar and in the sea areas extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambanthota will be rough to very rough at times.

There is also a possibility that near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Galle and Hambanthota, may experience swell waves, having 2.0 – 2.5 m height (not for land area).
