Litro awaits gas shipments, as shortage takes its toll

COLOMBO (News 1st); The gas shortage in the country is worsening by the day, with people waiting in line for hours, and tensions spilling over due to impatience.

Litro said that $7 Million is scheduled to be paid for two vessels of gas, each carrying 3500 MT.

The Chairman of Litro Wijitha Herath said the vessel are from Oman and one of them already reached the Maldives.

Meanwhile, Litro said it had decided to borrow $120 Million to buy gas under an Indian Credit Line.

The Chairman of Litro further said that Sri Lanka will receive $70 Million from the World Bank for gas purchasing.

Accordingly, necessary steps will be taken to rectify the existing gas shortage as soon as possible, he said.
