BASL condemns attacks on peaceful protestors

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Bar Association of Sri Lanka called upon immediate action by the IGP and the Police to prevent protesters from being attacked.

The BASL Statement is as follows:

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has received reports of a gang of persons armed with poles and clubs marching from Temple Trees towards Galle Face. They have attacked anti government protesters opposite Temple Trees. The BASL calls upon immediate action by the IGP and the Police to prevent protesters from being attacked. There will be grave repercussions by the inaction of the government and the police to deal with this situation.

The statement was issued by Saliya Pieris, the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka.
