Ranjith Siyambalapitiya resigns, again from the post of Deputy Speaker

COLOMBO (News 1st); Re-elected Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has decided to resign, again with immediate effect on Friday (6).

Ranjith Siyambalapitiya had recently resigned from the post of deputy speaker, after he announced he would sit independently.

However, he was re-elected as deputy speaker on Thursday (5).

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party proposed the name of Ranjith Siyambalapitiya for the post of deputy speaker.

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, the main ruling party, said they would support the nomination.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sri Lanka's main opposition party, nominated Imtiaz Bakeer Markar for the post.

Ranjith Siyambalapitiya received 148 votes, while Imthiaz Bakeer Marker received only 65 votes.
