HR commission commences inquiry into Rambukkana Shooting

COLOMBO (News 1st); Independent and unbiased inquiry on the Rambukkana police shooting case commenced today at the Human Right Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) headquarters.

An expert committee has been recruited by the HRCSL for this investigation and the team will directly report to the Chairman of the HRCSL.

The team comprises the following;

K.H. Sumathrapala - Retired High Court judge

Sudath Goppallwa - Retired High Court judge

Doctor Channa Perera - Forensic medical expert

W.D.G.S. Gunatillake - Forensic Ballistic Expert and retired government analyst

Shashi Nilam - Technical officer & IT expert for the video footage

Sanjaya Sooriyarachchi - IT Engineer

Chathura De Silva - IT Expert

Prasantha lal de Alwis PC - Senior Lawyer

Amal Randeniya - Senior lawyer

The team will be assisted by five senior officers of the HRC.

This investigation is independent of other investigations carried on by various other sources, and if it's necessary the experts will visit the site and collect all data, said the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.

Necessary directions will be given to IGP to produce reports to facilitate the investigation, it added.
