COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police on Wednesday (4) morning set up a new barricade made out of GI pipes obstructing the protest by a group farmers close to the Parliament premises.
For 8 days, farmers have been engaging in a Satyagraha Campaign at the Polduwa Junction against the government’s decision that led to the destruction of Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector.
As Wednesday (4) is a day for Parliament sessions, Police had set up this barricade using GI pipes obstructing one section of the Parliament Road.
“The Police Officers, acting on the instructions of the government had set up this barricade citing for the protection of MPs. But, they have surrounded us with this barricade. They cannot stop us by setting up these barricades,” said Anuradha Thennakoon, the Chairman of the National Agriculture Collective.
