CAA issues gazette declaring MRP for local Rice varieties

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) issued an extraordinary gazette on Monday night (May 2), declaring the Maximum Retail Price for local varieties of Rice.

As per the gazette, the MRP for a kilo of a Red Nadu Rice is set at Rs. 220; a kilo of White or Red Samba is set at Rs. 230; and a kilo of Keeri Samba at Rs. 260.

The CAA will carry out raids in search of traders who sell Rice at higher prices, and legal action will be taken against such traders, Major General (Retired) Shantha Dissanayake, the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) noted.
