COLOMBO (News 1st); The Governor of the Central Bank Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe states that a relief program will be launched from next month for Sri Lankans who have been affected by the economic crisis.
The Governor of the Central Bank stated that the relief program is being implemented under the auspices of the World Bank, and with the funds of USD 300 million, which is already reserved for the purpose.
Those who will benefit under this program will be low-income earners and those who are in poverty, as well as people who have been affected by the current economic crisis, the CBSL Governor stated.
Pointing out that both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund both agrees that the economic crisis affects those in poverty the most, Dr. Weerasinghe said that inflation could rise up to higher levels as well.
Therefore, he stated that it is the Government’s responsibility to grant relief to the most affected as the first step, which will take place next month under the Ministry of Finance.
