COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health has taken steps to implement the decision to revise the price of medicines every two weeks, giving consideration to the depreciation of the local currency.
Minister of Health, Prof. Channa Jayasumana said that he does NOT agree with the demands of several parties to increase medicine prices.
Meanwhile, National Medicine Regulatory Authority (NMRA) said that recommendations regarding a price revision for 61 types of medicines will be handed over to the Minister of Health.
The Chairman of the NMRA pointed out that at present 40% to 60% of the medicines are controlled by a Gazette.
He noted that with the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar, medicine prices rose by 29% in the past.
